Sennen Cornwall

Sennen Cornwall

Sennen at Sunset Cornwall

Sennen Cornwall and Sennen Cove are England's most Westerly village and the last village before Land's End Cornwall. Sennen is easily found on the main road from Penzance to Land's End.

Sennen Cove Cornwall is a picturesque village with an immense stretch of golden sands, old fishing harbour and has housed an important lifeboat station since 1853. Sennen Cove Cornwall is very popular with holiday makers and locals so the Cove can get very busy in the summer season.

Sennen beach has good facilities with a large car park a stone's throw away (and if this is full a larger one up the hill towards Sennen village - although this requires climbing a steep hill), a beach cafe and restaurant, beach hire shop for surf and body boards and other beach paraphernalia, surf lessons available, toilets, nearby cafes, take a ways, pub and gallery. The Round House Gallery Sennen (housed in the old winching house used to get the boats from the sea) specialises in local art and crafts.

Sennen beach is popular with families, beach goers and surfers and is famous for the dog lifeguard Bilbo. The beach is lifeguarded from mid may until mid September and has a seasonal dog ban (including the harbour) from Easter day until 1st October although dogs are allowed on the beach at Sennen between 7pm in the evening until 8am in the morning.

For surf lessons at Sennen Cove check out Smart Surf School who offer group and private surf lessons for beginners through to advanced. Smart Surf's instructors are some of the UK's top surfers and highly experienced beach lifeguards.  For more info give them a call on 01736 871817 or see their website www.sennensurfschool.com

Sennen Cove Cornwall is excellent for surfing as it is situated on Cornwall's South Western tip with a glorious golden sandy beach.  Beware of the risks when surfing - choose an organised lesson with surf instructor beach lifeguards or an area supervised by lifeguards. Sennen is very exposed to the Atlantic Ocean and so gets the brunt of any swell coming.  Sennen Cove is known as one of the most consistent surf spots in the UK. If there are waves to be caught they will be at Sennen.

The South end of Sennen is perfect for beginners as it is sheltered by the break water and the waves are less steep with less power.  The North End of the beach collects more swell and offers more power for more advanced surfers.

For those who enjoy walking the walk along the coast path to Land's End offers spectacular views and if you are lucky an excellent viewing spot to see the basking sharks. Keep dogs on a lead as the steep cliff edge and adders are a risk.

The fishing from the harbour has reduced but there is still crab and lobster potting from the Sennen Cove and a working lifeboat station which when open has a viewing area to see the lifeboat and small shop.

To get to Sennen take the main road from Penzance to Lands End and you will come to the village which is set on top of the cliff. For Sennen Cove turn right at the roundabout in the village of Sennen and down the steep hill to Sennen Cove the smaller village at the cliff bottom and by the sea.

For places near to Sennen consider Land's End - the end of the earth! St Just an nice inland town with lots of galleries or the busy town of Penzance.
