Cornwall's Regimental Museum Cornwall

Attractions Cornwall - Regimental Museum

Discover Cornwall’s Regimental History.

Recognised as probably the finest Military Museum in the South West of England Cornwall’s Regimental Museum is housed in the former headquarters of the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry “The Keep” at Bodmin, a magnificent Grade II listed Victorian building constructed in 1857.

The museum has around 12,000 collection items which are displayed to bring to life stories of battles which have been fought, weapons used and the personal lives of those involved.  There are numerous works of art, over 80 uniforms from Napoleonic times to modern day, medals, weapons, and personal letters written on the battlefield.    With over 300 years of military history displayed at the museum, and with most Cornish families having a connection to the Regiment the museum is a fascinating place to visit for a day out in Cornwall.

Amongst the museum’s displays are a room dedicated to Sir John Moore, a hugely important figure in the development of the British Army, and the poignant Lucknow Quilt which was produced by women at the siege of Lucknow in India from pieces of cloth cut from the uniforms of dead soldiers.  There are also the medals and memorabilia of Harry Patch, the last fighting Tommy, who at 111 was the last remaining survivor of World War 1 in Britain and a frequent visitor to the museum.

Cornwall’s Regimental Museum also has lots of Special Events going on throughout the year such as re-enactments and family fun days.

The museum also has conference and meeting rooms available for hire for those looking for a meeting space or somewhere to hold a public or private event.

Cornwall's Regimental Museum is a dog friendly attraction in Cornwall, so well behaved dogs on leads can go along and enjoy the day out too.  Please note the museum does say at busy times dogs may be refused admission and so if you are making a special trip with a dog it would be advisable to contact the museum beforehand to avoid any doggy disappointment.
